Tylenol maker recalls 60,000 Extra Strength bottles

Washington, DC, United States (AHN) – The maker of Tylenol announced a recall this week of more than 60,000 bottles of its Extra Strength tablets sold in the United States.

McNeil Consumer Healthcare announced that the recall was issued because of possible trace amounts of a chemical known as 2,4,6-tribromoanisole, or TBA.

The chemical is not associated with serious health problems, but it has been linked with temporary gastrointestinal symptoms.

The recall is for 225-count bottles of the pain reliever.

McNeill said through a Food and Drug Administration statement that some customers have complained about smelling musty and moldy odors when opening the bottles.

The recalled bottles have the lot number ABA619 and the UPC code 300450444271.

People who bought these pills should not take them and can contact McNeil at either www.tylenol.com or by calling 1-888-222-6036 for instructions about receiving a refund or product coupon.
