With the school holidays in sight, we pick exciting and good-value family holidays in Britain or just a short flight away

All prices are for July/August and based on a family of four Alpine activity, France

Coastal Europe hikes up its prices for July and August, but head for the mountains and you can bag yourself some great deals in the ski resorts, where summer is classed as low-season. Esprit Holidays has expanded its range of Family Alpine Summer Adventures, offering accommodation in family-friendly chalet hotels with the option of childcare and multi-activity packages. The Chalet Hotel Mariandre is an Alpine-style property in the French resort of Alpe d’Huez, a short walk from the town’s swimming pools, ice rink and Palais du Sport leisure centre. Adults and older children can choose from daily activities such as zip-wiring, rafting, mountain biking, hiking, glacier safaris and pony trekking, while younger children are looked after in the on-site nursery and Alpies Club. – A week full-board in July at the Chalet Hotel Mariandre with Esprit Holidays (01252 618300, espritfamilyadventures.com ) costs from £599 for a family of four. A five-day multi-activity package costs from £135 for adults, £113 for children. Return rail travel from London to Grenoble for a family of four costs from £428 with Rail Europe ( raileurope.co.uk ) Farm glamping, Leicestershire

Children will love the chance to help out on the farm while parents will appreciate the home comforts of their cosy canvas cottages at this new “glampsite”. The Dandelion Hideaway at Osbaston House Farm on the edge of the National Forest ( nationalforest.org ) opened only recently so there is still availability for the summer. The five luxury “cottages” are kitted out in vintage country style with butler sinks, kitchen dressers, woodburning fires, rustic furniture and private bathrooms with running hot water and old-fashioned slipper baths. Children are encouraged to help out with farm activities such as milking the goats, feeding the hens and grooming the Shetland ponies. In the evenings you can toast marshmallows over the campfire. – Seven nights in a canvas cottage sleeping six costs from £669 in July, £846 in August. Short breaks are available (01455 292888, thedandelionhideaway.co.uk ) Island escape, Istanbul

The Princes’ Islands are just a 50-minute ferry ride from Istanbul but this peaceful archipelago in the Sea of Marmara feels like another world. A popular weekend retreat for Istanbulites, who come here to swim, sunbathe and chill out at the relaxed beach clubs, these car-free islands offer a totally different pace of life, where horse-drawn carriages and bicycles are the main form of transport. The Karamanyan is a beautifully renovated Ottoman mansion on the island of Heybeliada, comprising four stylish and spacious apartments, sleeping between four and six. Head for the family-friendly Green Beach Club, with its gently shelving sandy beach and wooden jetty, explore the pine forests by bicycle or hop on one of the regular ferries that sail between the islands. – A week in an apartment at the Karamanyan in high season costs from £760 booked through Istanbul Islands ( istanbulislands.com ). Return flights from London to Istanbul start from £231 in July with EasyJet ( easyjet.com ) Riad on the Atlantic Coast, Morocco

Camel riding, windsurfing, quadbiking and Berber picnics are just a few of the activities on offer at the small village of Sidi Kaouki, near Essaouira. Stay at the Rebali Riads, a complex of six villas and pools set in gardens just 100m from the long, sandy beach and you get the best of both worlds – the privacy and space of a villa, with the services of a boutique hotel, including restaurant, hammam and tennis court. There are suites with sea views and private balconies, or you can take an entire riad. If you don’t want to self-cater, freshly cooked meals can be delivered to your private roof terrace or courtyard for alfresco dining. The atmospheric fishing port of Essaouira, with its medina and restaurants, is a 25-minute (£8) taxi ride away. – Fleewinter (020-7112 0019, fleewinter.com ) offers a week at the Rebali Riads from £450pp including flights, transfers and breakfast Two-centre break, Catalonia, Spain

Keep everyone happy with a two-centre break combining the culture, shopping and sightseeing of Girona, with a seaside stay on the Costa Brava. Overshadowed by Barcelona, Girona is a gem of a city, with an atmospheric Jewish quarter, its own Rambla with cafes and flower market, and a beautiful cathedral. Book into one of the great-value self-catering apartments at the Hotel Historic in the heart of the Old Town and you will have the city on your doorstep. Then head for the coast (60km away) for some R&R. Named after the tamarisk trees that surrounded its bays, Tamariu is a charming resort with a sandy beach, which has hung on to its Catalan character despite its popularity. The Hotel Tamariu is a simple, family-run hotel which attracts a loyal following of repeat visitors. – An apartment at the Hotel Historic (+34 972 223583, hotelhistoric.com ) costs from €120 per night. Double rooms at the Hotel Tamariu (+34 972 620031, tamariu.com ) cost from €149 in high season, with extra bed at €30 a day. Ryanair ( ryanair.com ) has return flights to Girona from £110 in July Wild camping, Guernsey

This month sees the launch of WildGuernsey, the island’s first “eco-campsite”, offering accommodation in tipis and bell tents with a choice of extras such as wild food workshops, holistic pampering sessions and activities such as snorkelling, surfing and kayaking. There’s a handful of bell tents and tipis to choose from on a beautiful site overlooking the sea, just 20 minutes from St Peter Port. The emphasis here is on sustainable living and self-sufficiency, so if you wish to fish or forage for your supper the owners will help you to arrange it. (If that sounds too much like hard work, they can provide a hamper of locally sourced food.) Guests who arrive without a car will get a free bus pass or bike to use for the length of their stay. – A week in a tipi for a family of four in high season costs £588 ( wildguernsey.wordpress.com ). A ferry crossing from Portsmouth to Guernsey for a car and four passengers in July costs from around £400 with Condor Ferries ( condorferries.co.uk ) Beach holiday, Alentejo, Portugal

Portugal is one of Europe’s best-value destinations right now, and a new flight into the Alentejo region has opened up some of its most spectacular coastline to British holidaymakers. Using BMI’s new weekly service from Heathrow to the new passenger terminal at Beja, Sunvil Discovery is offering packages to the Troia peninsula, home to Portugal’s finest white-sand beaches. Stay at the Aqualuz Resort for an action-packed week of watersports, tennis, swimming and golf. Explore the white-washed villages and cork forests of the Alentejo, or take the ferry across the estuary for a day trip to the historic harbour town of Setúbal. – Sunvil Discovery (020-8758 4722, sunvil.co.uk ) is offering seven nights at Aqualuz from £1,485 for a family of four, if booked by 24 June. The package includes flights, transfers and B&B studio accommodation Cycling, Puglia, Italy

Cycling is the perfect way to explore the olive groves, vineyards and coastal plains of Puglia in the south of Italy. Criss-crossed by a network of tracks and quiet roads, the distinctive landscape is peppered with limestone trulli , the curious conical buildings unique to the region. Book a stay at the Masseria due Torri apartments with Essential Italy and bicycles will be delivered to you there. The English owners of this 17th-century stone farmhouse have converted it into a comfortable B&B with a self-catering apartment which is great for families. The Farmhouse Apartment sleeps four and has a lovely terrace for alfresco dining. There’s a shared pool surrounded by olive trees and the sandy beaches of the Adriatic coast are a short bike ride away. – A week at the Farmhouse Apartment in July or August costs £810 through Essential Italy (01223 460100, essentialitaly.co.uk ). Bicycle hire is extra and costs €45 for adults and €30 for children for five days. Ryanair ( ryanair.com ) return flights from Stansted to Bari in July cost from £219 Tipi Adventure, West Sweden

This new holiday from Sweden specialist Nature Travels is all about getting back to nature. Each evening you will cook your dinner over an open fire before retiring to your tipi to sleep on a bed of fir twigs covered with warm and comfortable reindeer skins. Each tipi comes with its own rowing boat for exploring the lake or going fishing, and the surrounding forests offer wonderful hiking. If you crave civilisation, the city of Gothenburg is an hour’s drive away. – A four-day stay in a tipi (sleeping up to six) in July or August costs £217. Book through Nature Travels (01929 463774, naturetravels.co.uk ). Ryanair has return flights from Stansted to Gothenburg from around £50 in July and August Guided walks, Lake District

HF Holidays is offering great savings on its Guided Walking for Families trips in the UK this year, with children under 11 going free, and 11s and over at half-price. Adult prices are now being discounted on selected weeks for this summer too, so choose carefully and you could bag yourself a bargain. There are still places left on a week’s holiday at HF Holidays’ own country house near Coniston Water in July. The fully-catered trip includes five days of guided walking tailored to the children’s ability, with picnic lunches and family-orientated games and entertainment in the evening. This is a good deal for single parents because you don’t have to have two paying adults to take up the offer. – A seven-night holiday at Monk Coniston, departing 30 July, now costs £599 (reduced from £649) for adults (0845 470 7558, hfholidays.co.uk ). So a family of four with two children under 11 would pay £1,198 for a full-board holiday, sharing a family room. The cost for children over 11 is £324.50 Island escape, Croatia

Part of the Elafiti chain of islands, the car-free island of Lopud boasts one of the best beaches in Croatia, the famous Sunj bay, a crescent of fine white sand backed by green hills. The water is shallow, making it an ideal spot for young children, and sun beds and beach umbrellas can be hired. The port of Lopud has a handful of cafes, restaurants and hotels, but the bright lights of Dubrovnik are just a 50-minute ferry ride away should you crave a change of tempo. The beachside Hotel Lafodia, decorated in colourful and contemporary style, is a perfect base for families, with an outdoor pool, pedalos, bicycles, table tennis, canoes, and a mini-club for young children. – A week at Hotel Lafodia in a family room (sleeping four) costs £2,283 through Essentially Prestige (01425 480400, prestigeholidays.co.uk ). The site has a restaurant and creperie, cafe-cum-bookshop, a small spa and children’s play equipment. This is a holiday for active families with older children, with guided hikes and fishing trips available. – A caravan sleeping up to five with shower room and kitchenette costs from €534 in July with Roulottes des Korrigans (+33 06 8457 9624, roulottes-des-korrigans.com ).
Oranjestad, Aruba (AHN) – A jawbone reportedly found on a beach in Aruba will be studied by forensic scientists to determine whether it is human, and if so, whether it belongs to Natalee Holloway, according to reports from the National Forensic Institute in the Hague, Netherlands.

The Alabama teen last seen on the island in 2005

Experts said the material will be analyzed to determine whether the bone is animal or human. If it is discovered it is human, a DNA profile will be created, reports stated. The process usually takes about a week, but also depends on the condition of the material.

No description of the material was provided.

According to reports, the bone was found near the Phoenix hotel, a location mentioned by Jordan Van der Sloot, who was taken into custody in connection with Holloway’s disappearance. He was never formally charged.

Holloway was 18 when she was last seen on May 30, 2005, leaving a nightclub in Oranjestad, Aruba, with Van der Sloot, 23, and two other men. She was visiting the island with 100 classmates from Mountain Brook High School in Birmingham, AL, to celebrate their senior graduation.

Van der Sloot is currently behind bars in Lima, Peru, awaiting trial on a murder charge in the death of Stephany Flores, a Peruvian student.

Kangaroo Island, Australia (AHN) – At least a dozen penguins were found dead by a tourist backpaker lying on a beach near Kingscote in Southern Australia’s Kangaroo Island, this Sunday morning.

According to John Ayliffe, manager of the penguin colony, a dog was probably responsible, reasoning that, “There were footprints in the area and we believe the dog has been identified.”

Ayliffe claims that in his managed colony of 800 penguins, dog attacks have become less common due to education and the presence of council inspectors.

Though Ayliffe cautions that these are not the only birds that have been killed, commenting that, “We wouldn’t have found anywhere near all of them. But the problem is, that every adult penguin that is killed essentially means two penguins dead because they can’t raise their young for the rest of the year.”

Taking a jog on the beach or a nice long walk through the gorgeous downtown area is just a couple of very good reasons to have a well trained dog. It really doesn’t matter where you live, a dog that is well trained is crucial to having a better life with your dog, but how do you choose a good trainer or reliable home dog training course?

There is good news because by living in Miami you have some wonderful options. There are quite a few dog trainers who can help you learn the art of obedience training or show you how to deal with certain behavior problems. You will also be able to find quite a few dog training guides through the internet that are produced by professional dog trainers.

Online dog training is especially useful to the people who are living on the fast track and just do not have the few hours to spare going to a trainers once a week.

*Get Some References

A good trainer should be certified, just don’t take him at his word. Go ahead and ask to see his credentials and do a little background check. Also, see if he will give you a list of some former clients he can use as references. Find out what kind of training methods he uses and if the results last a long time.

*Get Something In Writing

Go ahead and ask for a lesson outline. All good trainers have a written agenda about what each lesson is about.

*Can We Meet?

Since training your dog in Miami is what you are after, see if it would be possible to hook up at a few different locations that you and your dog frequent, the beach for example. Although this isn’t a must, it would be a nice added bonus, giving you the added confidence you need to hang out at the regular haunts with your dog.

*This Particular Breed

Even though obedience training isn’t breed specific, if the trainer has worked with your breed of dog – especially if this breed has a reputation for being stubborn – that would just be icing on the cake.

*Get Some Details

Try and get as many details as you can about the methods he will be using for the training. For instance, does he really push for the students to use prong collars? Do you think that you could be comfortable with his training style? If you can’t, there are plenty of other options.

*View It Live

See if there is any way you can come and observe some of the training. Watch how the trainer communicates with the dogs and their handlers. Does it look as though dogs are his passion? Does he act like patience is a virtue? Do the dogs seem responsive to this particular training style?

*What Questions Is He Asking?

You should get a pretty good idea about the type of trainer he is by taking note of what is required by you before you are admitted into his class. Does he seem to be only concerned about the cash? Does he let you know that you will need shot records?

*Gives You The Guarantee

If this trainer should give you “the guarantee” that your dog is going to pick right up on his style of training, then finding another trainer might be in order. No one method is going to work on every single dog. No trainer out there has a success rate of 100%, particularly on strong willed dogs. If he is a top notch trainer he may offer some follow up training if it is truly needed, but 100% guarantee is a caution flag.

There really quite a few options when it comes to training your dog in Miami, and the benefits of a dog that does what you ask is absolutely priceless. Don’t wait any longer.

Gerald has a passion for everything dogs. His goal is to continue to improve on and share his knowledge. Whether you want to learn how to train your dog or about fixing dog behavior problems he is there to help. Start dog training Miami today!Article Source:http://www.articlesbase.com/pets-articles/dog-training-miami-1394080.html
