With tough economic times, more and more people are searching for ways to make extra money without any money upfront, if you love pets then pet sitting is an option you might want to consider. We live in a highly mobile society and whether for business or pleasure, people on the average travel a fair amount. It is often difficult to take your pets with you especially if you are flying or taking a cruise, so this leaves the pet owner with the difficult task of what to do with their beloved dog, cat, or bird. Kennels can be very expensive and often can be quite traumatic for the pet; they can even make them sick.

That is where pet sitting comes in, as a pet sitter you will either come to your client’s home, or you will bring their pet to your home depending on your client’s preference. You will feed, water, exercise and love their pet while they are gone. You may also need to provide grooming, and if the pet is ill, or elderly you might be asked to give them medications as well.

To start this business all you will need is time and a lot of love, your clients will supply the rest. As time goes on pet sitters normally will get bonded, so that owners feel comfortable allowing them access to their homes. You might also consider obtaining certifications in pet sitting and animal first aid.

You will want to print up some paper work on your computer for your new business, a contract, a pet information sheet, and a daily log. The pet information sheet will list all the dogs’ vital information including age, any medical conditions, allergies, and most importantly the name and phone number of their vet. A daily log will be for you to fill out while the pet owner is away, this will allow them to see what time you have spent with their pet, and what you did with them while the owner was away.

Once you have all your preparations in place, then it is time to advertise your pet business, start with flyers and business cards as these can be designed on your computer and printed out for no extra money, provided you have the paper and ink. Once you have completed a few jobs consider taking out an ad in your local newspaper.

Pet sitting services are very popular these days and depending on what is available in your area, you may find that soon you are booked up solid for months, and need to hire more people. Suddenly the business you started without money is bringing in more money than you could possibly have imagined.

/>The pet care business is booming and leading to a very good income for those who love and want to work with animals, especially for those who want to care for dogs. There is definitely no shortage of opportunities in the pet care business and indeed there has been no better time to get established with pet care because pet popularity is at its’ peak. Americans and people from countries all over the world literally spend thousands each year on such things as boarding, breeding, grooming, pet sitting and pet accessories. The experts in the field claim that this trend will only increase. Indeed one of the fastest segments of the home-based business is the pet care business. If you are thinking of going into the dog business side of pet care then it is important that you obtain as much dog care information as possible.

Statistically the following are true:

• 47% of all US households own more than one pet

• 40 million US households own at least one dog

• Americans spend $34 billion on their pets each year

Do you love dogs? Then a dog grooming business might be right for you. There are many dog owners who just don’t have the time to take proper care of their beloved pet. Taking care of a dog is a demand for some who just don’t have the time nor the inclination to maintain proper care, even though they understand and want to care for their canine. For dog owners there are such duties as taking the dog for a walk, giving the dog a bath, grooming the dog and other things.

When setting up an area for grooming dogs in your pet care business, select a quiet area inside the house. Of course you can set-up a grooming area outside of the house if you want to but grooming a dog inside the house is lot better. First, most dogs are less playful when they are inside the house than when they are in the yard, second, there are less distractions inside the house and third, it would be easier on your part to store all your grooming stuff. For grooming dogs, you will need the following materials; a table, towels, cotton, mineral oil, eye ointment, nails clippers and a brush. You can easily get all these stuff at your favorite pet shop. Of course if you have ample room in a garage area this is even more suitable for grooming the dog.

Certainly the pet care business, especially the dog business, is worthwhile getting into. Dog grooming and bathing is not the only way in which one can make a living taking care of pets, however it is a good example that even though it is not easy to take care of pets nevertheless a very worthwhile income can be made taking care of dogs or any other pet in a home pet business.

/>The busy life makes people crave for time. No one has time to take care of family members let alone the pets like dogs, cats etc. In this scenario people look for day care facilities for their pets. The requirement of dog daycare is increasing day by day, as owners do not want to leave their beloved pet alone at home. Therefore, the dog daycare business is having great prospects in the future. However, for those who want to start this business have many questions regarding starting of dog daycare center.

Dog daycare is more than about baby-sitting. Dog daycare deals with pet sitting involving multiple dogs, but with emphasis on proper care and attention. Since multiple dogs social interaction with other dogs is important, and handling different types of dogs is not an easy job. Dog daycare involves exercising, bite training, bathing, timely feeding, and playtime. What dog owners expect from a dog daycare is security, proper care, and pampering of their dogs when they are busy at work.

For those who want to start a dog daycare, it is very important that they have love for animals. First step for starting a dog daycare is to have a nice name for the firm. Then find a proper place to set up the business. If you have a large lot this could be your own backyard. Find sources for investment capital for setting up the infrastructure. There should be enough space in the building for indoor exercising. There should be enclosed yards for dogs to run around to socialize. There should be enough equipment for keeping dogs active as well as entertained while in day care. Numerous kennels must also be readied so that, non-socializing dogs could be separated from other dogs.

Once the infrastructure is ready get the required permits as well as licenses such as veterinary department permit, business license, fire department permits, etc. Then have training about dog care to make sure that the facilities and trainers are well equipped to handle the dogs. Dogs can be nasty at times especially among a group of dogs, so ability to handle any situation is necessary. Therefore, select the dog trainers with necessary qualifications in dog management, grooming and training for supervision of dogs, to ensure that the dogs are not bullying or becoming aggressive. The number of dog trainers should be relative to the capacity of the daycare center.

Setting up of diet service to cover the varying dietary needs of diverse dogs of age, as well as, breed is necessary. It is necessary to have access to veterinary medical services for the dogs in the daycare center. Cleaning service must be set up to keep the premises clean and clear of odours. There should be arrangements for dogs’ safety during rains and other natural calamities. Once these things are set, scale the charges for dog daycare services with your eye on recovering the investment and to cover the running cost. After that, advertise your dog day care to lure customers.

If this all seems like a lot of work, guess what, it is! But you can make it a more enjoyable experience by checking out the possibilities of franchising. Many very lucrative doggie daycare centers are already up and running and available for franchising. One such center is the DogSmith which has a unique setup and reputation. They can help you with all your questions and even some questions you would never think to ask. Buying a franchise is the best way to go because they also help with advertising and marketing your new franchise. This can be one of the largest costs after purchasing you franchise. So remember, franchising is the best kept secret of the 21st Century.

/>A lot of dedicated pets owners love to pamper their pets, just as most parents pamper their children. Pet supplies and treats sales generate billions of dollars per year; rather it’s healthy dog food for your puppy or playful toys for your kitty.

There are a lot of people making money from home selling dog treats, cat condominiums and other products that can be made in ones home.

One product that is not sold on grocery and department store shelves, that pet owner’s love, is all natural pet soap. This is a niche that is in high demand for dog owners, with very little competition.

You could start a pet soap business quickly and easier, using materials purchased at just about any grocery store. You could then sell your soaps to area stores, pet gift basket businesses and local pet owners.

There are many types of molds that can be used when making homemade soaps. You can sell bars that are a basic rectangular shape, or you could get a paw shaped mold and sell puppy paws soap. Another fun way to shape your pet soaps would be to use molds shaped like food. A T-Bone shaped soap would be a novelty gift that would bring joy to any recipient.

A full line of pet soaps could be created, offering basic affordable bars for every day baths, to expensive soaps made with exotic oils for pet shows and special occasions.

To create gift sets of your soaps, you could make bubble bath out of the soaps as well (just grate the soap with any cheese grater, add water and simmer on low heat until a thick liquid). Packaging a bar of soap with a bottle of bubble bath and a pet towel makes a wonderful gift for Holidays and pet birthdays. Or why not add something more. Why not include a dog biscuit to clean dog’s teeth, and you will have a complete bath in a box set sure to delight pets and their owners alike.

This is a business opportunity that you could start this week, with little start-up cost. You can turn regular olive oil into a bar of pure beauty that will make dogs drool as their owner washes the silkiness all over their fur.

Maria Wilkes is an expert soap maker, who has a lot of fun developing all sorts of novelty soaps and bath products. She also shares her expertise with others who are wishing to learn how to make homemade soaps, at http://www.homemadelyesoaps.com .

Do you own a large vehicle?

If the answer to both of these questions is a resounding yes, then let me show you a great way to make money!

This is a business that’s becoming very popular in cities and suburban areas.

Pet chauffeurs bring your pet to the vet, groomer or kennel when you can’t or don’t have time to.

This service is especially useful to the elderly who can’t get around well, and to other’s that don’t have their own transportation.

Pets are not always welcome in taxi cabs or public transportation.

You should have a large vehicle, such as a van or SUV to accommodate large animals.

You may want to invest in a few carrying cases, or small cages, just in case the pet owner no longer has one.

Keep all cases and cages clean.

As a pet chauffeur, charging anywhere from $15 – $35 a ride is very reasonable.
Of course your fees depend on the size of the animal, and the distance traveled.Get some nice magnetic signs for your vehicle, to help advertise your business. A cell phone with voice mail is a must in this business.

Place some business cards and flyers at your local pet shops, kennels and veterinarians.

You should also place some newspaper ads.

Don’t forget to notify your auto insurance company, let them know what you are doing.

You may need additional insurance coverage.

Remember, good customer relations is imperative for you business to flourish.

If you take good care of your clients, they’ll tell their friends.

What you have to do is to choose something in the pet line that you are comfortable with and know well.

People all over own pets and most of them treat their pets like they are part of the family. I know this is true because I have three wiener dogs ( dachshunds) myself and they are treated like members of my family and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Pet stores, groomers, sitters, just to name a few are all part of a booming business and if you are willing to take a chance and invest some time and money, then you too can be a part of this picture and be highly successful.

One of the pet business opportunities that can be done from home is pet sitting. There is a big demand for this, especially in the city areas and there is also business in the rural areas as well. People that work need to have pet sitters to take care of their animals while they are away from home. The sitter is paid to walk the animals and provide other care that they need. Also, when people are away on vacations, they need pet sitters to care for their animals as well.

Pet sitting does not require a huge investment to get started. You will have to spend some money on advertising so you can reach people and make them aware of the service that you are offering.

There are also business opportunities that are available that you can do online such as a virtual pet supply store. This can save you money because it does not require you to rent or buy a building to house your business in and also you will not have to keep such a large inventory of products. This will also give you the opportunity to provide your customers with some valuable useful information so you can win their trust.

These pets need to be fed, cleaned, and cared for. Pet care can not be completed without buying pet supplies and that is why many individuals choose to shop at a pet store.

A pet store is classified as a store that specifically sells pet products. There are a number of department stores or other retail stores that carry pet products; however, they are not classified as a pet store. These locations are known as only having a pet department. Depending on the type of retail store in question many retail stores with a pet department only carry the most needed items including pet food or bedding. While traditional retail stores with a pet department are a great way to get pet supplies when already shopping in the store, many pet owners find it more convenient to shop directly at a pet store.

There are a number of reasons why a pet owner would prefer to shop at a pet store and the most common reason is due to the selection of products
available. Most pet stores are a fairly decent size and they tend to carry everyday pet items and other special items. In addition to pet supplies, it is also likely that a pet store may be selling a selection of pets. It is not uncommon to find fish, cats, dogs, hamsters, and other small animals on display at a pet store.

While both traditional department stores and pet stores carry name brand
products a pet store is more likely to do so. It is not uncommon to find top of the line products at a pet store that may not be available in a traditional retail store. These items often cost more money; however, they are worth it to many pet owners. Department stores, especially those claiming to be discount stores, are less likely to carry products that are high priced even if they are worth the value. Most pet stores are more worried about the quality of product versus the price.

Another reason why pet owners enjoy shopping at a pet store is because of
the customer service at the store. Most pet stores require that their
employees become trained and educated in the pet department that they are
working in. This not only makes their employees more knowledgeable, but it also makes them able to provide better service to their customers. In many traditional department stores it is hard to find a store employee in the department area let alone one is who able to efficiently answer your pet question.

There are technically two types of pet stores. There are the traditional
storefront pet store locations and those that are located online. Shopping at each type of pet store has its own advantages and disadvantages. Many pet store shoppers would prefer to shop at online pet stores and others do not.

The preference is up the pet owner; however, there is no doubt that most still prefer to shop at a pet store over a traditional retail store.

You can literally set yourself up to be successful in raising a puppy that will be obedient. Throughout the first year of your dog’s life with you, take the time and effort to plan your dog’s training and exercise patience and persistence. Here are some strategies to get you started on the right path.

Plan the physical space that your puppy will be living in. Consider safety issues such as a fenced-in yard or a crate or gated space inside where your puppy can be kept when you cannot actively monitor it. Puppy-proof your living space to ensure that dangerous items like household cleaners and electrical cords are secured. Close off areas that you do not want your dog to enter. Keep your tables and countertops clear of food so that your pet doesn’t develop a counter surfing habit.

Crates should be used when you cannot watch your puppy or when you and/or your puppy just simply need a break. The crate should be a place where your puppy feels safe and comfortable. Remember that dogs like den-like places and the crate will serve this purpose. Crates are very useful for house-breaking dogs.

Choose a crate that your puppy can grow into. Dogs will never eliminate where they sleep so make sure that when your puppy is small that they aren’t urinating in one area of the crate and sleeping in another. If this happens, block off part of the crate and make the area inhabited by your puppy too small for them to find a place to go to the bathroom.

If you are crating your puppy at night, make sure that he is tired and well exercised before putting him in. Dogs are social animals and don’t like to be alone at night so place the crate near your bed at night. When placing your puppy in the crate, if he whines or cries, ignore it. You must wait them out or it will just get worse.

It is a good idea to make your puppy feel comfortable in the crate by putting some of his favourite toys inside. Here is a great trick: show your puppy a special treat and place it inside the crate and shut the door. Your puppy will literally be dying top get inside and have his treat. When you let him in to get it, gently close the door behind him and praise him.

Dogs must become accustomed to being left on their own. This way they will not suffer stress when left alone and then engage in destructive behaviour. Again, it is imperative to leave them in a safe and comfortable environment. To help them be alone do not fuss over them before you leave. Just be casual and even ignore them when you leave and return. This keeps these times unemotional for you and your dog.

It is a great idea to exercise your dog to tucker him out before you are going to leave him for a long period of time. You should also leave your dog with something to keep him busy. Chew toys, Kongs stuffed with treats, marrow bones and so on work very well here. Leave your stereo on with some relaxing classical music to keep your dog company while you are out.

Good management on your part is required for effective house training. It is important to know that puppies under four months have little bladder control but they can often hold it through the night as their metabolism slows down. A dogs’ instinct is to move away from their sleeping area to go and the difference between inside and outside must be taught to them.

A regular feeding and sleeping schedule is vital to house training. Make sure to take your puppy outside after meals and upon awakening from sleeping. If they don’t go right away, keep an eye on them. Encourage them to go and while they are going say something like “do your business” so that they associate that phrase with eliminating. Soon you can use phrases such as “do your business” almost as commands and your dog will follow your direction. Remember to praise your dog lavishly after they go where you want them to.

Set yourself up for success by being attentive to all the things you can do to provide an optimal environment for your puppy to learn and grow. Combine this with daily exercise, discipline and affection and you will have a fabulous companion.

<img src="http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff110/docbolch/50901f42.jpg" border="0" alt=""after dog training" Pictures, Images and Photos"align="right"/>Dogs can neither talk nor truly understand the spoken word, they cannot be taught right from wrong (as we can) by learning from other people’s experience. Furthermore, dogs cannot ask the all important questions, ‘what?’, ‘when?’, ‘why? and ‘how?’.There is no doubt that teaching and training dogs would be a doddie!

Although dogs are not able to talk, they do communicate by a truly sophisticated method- ‘body language’. As a result, dogs have become very astute observers. They can detect minute changes in the attitude of humans, and this they often appear to be “reading” their owner’s mind and be able to anticipate correctly what is about to happen. From a behavioral point of view, the significance of this is that if we are able to interpret THEIR body language and use our adaptation of their body language, together with words, when we teach them how we would like them to behave. The value of using gestures and words is often underestimated and is certainly far more effective than shouting! Another important implication of this fact is that we can, often unintentionally, encourage or “reinforce” a dog’s behavior by an inadvertent word or gesture that the dog interprets as praise. A dog’s emotions and intentions can be read by observing its stance, how it holds its ears and tail and its facial expression. It pays to observe your dog closely as a puppy and throughout its life so that you can interpret what it is likely to be “saying” to you. Some of the most common signs are explained below:

1. Ears

Pricked/erect pointing forward: Dog alert and listening

Held back to head: Submission, pleasure or ready to attack

Flat back or low on head: Fear

2. Eyes

Narrowed and half closed: Pleasure or submission

Wide open and staring: Threatening Soft-eyed sideways glance: Approval

3. Mouth

One-sided grin: A friendly greeting

Both lips pulled back to expose teeth: The start of aggression Head lowered not barking: About to mount an attack, advance carefully!

4. Body

Standing on toes, chest thrust forward, air on neck and along back erect: Aggression

Aggressive stance and barking with mouth open: Not certain and afraid of what you are going to do. Lying on back and possible dribbles of urine: Fearful of getting hurt.

5. Tail

Carried at 45 degrees or more higher than spine: Alert and interested Clamped down over bottom: Nervous and afraid Between legs and hind quarters crouched: Nervous and afraid Tail gently waving: Annoyed and thinking about bring aggressive Tail wagging – Happy and enjoying itself.
